Eldar Obelisk

Hey ya! Fox here with a little review of the Foundations of War: Small Elven Road Marker. I have to say I really like the look of this obelisk, the detail is nice though I wish the marking were just a little deeper. This was a lot of fun to paint though very few the bubbles posed a little challenge.

During painting I really liked working with how smooth the sides were yet they had a little texture. As you can see the bubbles in the details were a little tricky to fill but didn't really cause much of a head ach.

Tossing it on a base went well, this is my first time working with plaster so I took a little white glue and painted the bottom let it dry then used super glue to glue it to the base. I hope this will make a it a little easier in the future should I want to change the base. If you have a good idea about how to glue plaster to bases please post it in the comments. Overall I'm really happy with this product and would make a great addition to anyones terrain be it fantasy or sci fi table top gaming.

Battle Report: Silar's Eldar!

Yesterday January 27, I had a battle against Silar and his Eldar.

My 1500pts list:
Liberian
3x Tactical Squad squads w/ drop pods
2x Vindicator Tanks
1x Squad of sniper scouts
3x Dreadnoughts

Silar's List: (approx)
Avatar
Storm guardian squad in Wave Serpent
Guardian Defenders in Wave Serpent
Dire Avengers in Wave Serpent
2x Wraith lords
War Walker
Striking Scorpions

The Mission we rolled was two objectives and standard deployment. I took first turn. I put my scout snipers on my objective and placed my vehicles besides them. Silar deployed all his skimmers away from his objective, which was really Eldar of him! I landed a drop pod near his skimmers, and the other pod landed beside his objective. I combat squadded to give max distraction. The rest of the game his skimmers and wraith lords edge closer to my lines as they shot at me and I shot back.

There was a huge epic moment when his Avatar charged 10 tactical marines. After the dust settled, there was no more Avatar and a single marine took a wound. poor marine :(

He did a turn 5 turn tank shock at both objectives, which resulted in a dead scout on my side of the board, and an immobile skimmer at the other end. We did play to turn 6 and both skimmers ended up exploding from krak grenade.

In the end, humanities best prevailed with 2-0 objectives.

Silar, if your listening it was great to play against you and I would have a rematch at any time!

Dark Eldar Battle Report

Hey all, I went over to Mitch's (Ottawa Gamer) to test out my Dark Eldar army out and see where I should build. We did a 1k point lists, Marines vs Dark Eldar, and the mission was capture and control and dawn of war was the deployment.
Deployment was one rhino and a squad of marines with my raider with warriors in it

The game progressed from there with the Dark Eldar advancing to meet the Marines on the right of the table. A few highlights from the battle were 2 raiders and the ravager were destroyed, the assault marines squished my Archon and his warrior squad. The warp beasts tore up a squad of assault marines and their Chaplin with the help of the bikes. My wych squad was almost wiped out after jumping from their wrecked raider, the two remaining wych survived to hold up a 10 man marine squad for 2 turns alone ( that's like 4 assault phases damn). Here are some pics from the battle below. The game ended in my troops covering my objective were shot and ran off the board but my remaining raider zoomed up to contest Mitch's objective. What I learned from this battle is I want 2 more beasts, wyches and warriors. After lunch I totally forgot to keep taking pics haha so the last two turns are missing :( Thanks for the great game Mitch!!

This battle Report is brought to you by Darby/Fox. A great game, as we both learned allot about Dark Eldar, since it was a first game for booth of us using/fighting Dark Eldar. I am looking forward to more games against Dark Eldar in the future!

Fox's take on Eldar Jetbikes

Hey! My name is Darby but many people know me as Fox. I've been playing Warhammer 40k on and off since the early 90's. I've always had a passion for Eldar/Dark Eldar and when Mitch asked me to talk about them I couldn't resist.

What can I say, guardians moving 12 -18" with a 3+ save is priceless. Toss in a Farseer and a Warlock and you have one powerful unit. Some use a seer council but I'm trying to move away from that. The fluff for my Craftworld is that its a scouting group from Ulthwe, so they have limited resources and access to aspect and seers. With that said here is how usually set up my army.

I wont go with less then 8 bikes in a squad usually, the idea is with 2 being devoted to cannons you only have 6 bikes to soak up any wounds so numbers help and work. That's the base of my two troop units, I'll toss in a warlock with enhanced or embolden depending on my point restriction and a farseer with Fortune.

Two bike units supported by a warlock and farseer in each can be really tough to beat and they can hold their own against several opponents. Some weaknesses I've found are its cost and not being able to deal with AV14. Now that's the thing with Eldar players, we usually build our armies so each unit has a specific role and each unit supports the other. I use these units for popping small rhino, mid size battle tanks (the ones with av10 on the rear), multiple objective grabbing and supporting assault units. So this is my core and I add other units to help support, units like swooping hawks, vypers, dire avengers/guardians and several others.

Well there you go, that's just my take on Eldar jet bikes, again I prefer not using a seer council because I have had more luck with this combo so far. That and my council gets targeted and wiped out early. lol

In addition here are my bikes in action.

Ah, my good friend Darby! Where would I be in 40k without him!My space Marines are his Kryptonite; but that's what happens when you play the same person regularly. You will expect allot of good things from him, including some Eldar how to!

Battle Report: 4 way mix up

Today's battle report will feature a battle between myself, Doug S, Darby C, and Greg H. The forces were 1250pts a person and we diced of teams. It was my Salamanders and Doug's Chaos Marines VS Darby's Eldar and Greg's Imperial Guard. Mission was 4 objectives with pitched battle deployment. The Marine team won first deploy. The game went pretty good but due to a time constraint Darby needed to head into work and we called a draw during the third turn!

Salamanders VS Ulthwé

The battle for dominance commences...

Todays battle report will feature my Salamanders VS Fox's Ulthwé Strike Force at a point level of 1750. This took place on Sunday February 8th, 2009. The mission rolled was Seize Ground with pitched battle deployment. I rolled first turn.

Deployment - I deployed in a standard line, while the eldar stayed in reserve.

First Turn - I moved my forces forward

Second Turn - I positioned my forces in a position to ready for the Eldar. During Fox's turn, a fireprism and waveserpant came onto the table and used star engines to get into my deployment zone.

Third Turn - I proceded to annilate the fireprism and waveserpant, only survivoirs was a single starcannon crew from the passengers. All the remaining Eldar came onto the table minus a single fireprism. The waveserpant deployed Eldrad and firedragons which roasted a predator tank. Also, the starcannon gunner caused an explosion on my second predator causing the gunner to die with it. Vengence :D Also, I lost a razorback carring the sternguard

Forth Turn - My marines opened up, and all kill a few firedragons, my bikes shot and destroyed a vyper, while another vyper rammed a speeder. My sternguard charged the darkreapers, but they passed the LD check

Fifth Turn - Bikes charge into the Eldar bikes and destroy them, Eldric storm wrecks one of my rhinos, a few marines here and there die, nothing critical. The remaining waveserpant and fireprism use there star engines to get into my deployment zone. Eldar are now on the ropes, but might be up to something!

Sixth Turn - Bikes charge Eldrad and kill him. SHooting into the remaining skimmers does not cause critical damage. The Eldar are down 75% of there force and apeer to be out of the game, and then it happens... A waveserpant attempts to tankshock my marines on my home objective, but it fails its dangerous terrain test in a ball of fire. The fireprism has a go, and my brave multi-melta marine standsfast, takes the shot... but only a shaken is caused and the squads moves off the objective. A die was rolled to see if the game continued, and a 3 came up, game over, a tie!
